Copper- A Hot Design Trend for 2014

Copper has been around for centuries. Why the current new appeal? Maybe it has something to do with its’ natural antiseptic properties. That’s right. Due to copper’s natural intrinsic properties, it has the ability to destroy a wide range of bacteria. Some 355 copper alloys were proven to kill more than 99.9% of disease-causing bacteria within just two hours when cleaned regularly. Great news for those with young kids!

Copper has been used since ancient times as a weatherproof and corrosion resistant architectural material. Copper’s architectural uses have included roofs, flashing, doors, spires, domes, rain gutters and downspouts. Once copper has been exposed to outdoor elements, it starts to develop a patina. This distinctive natural green patina is an extremely durable layer that is highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion.

Copper is 100% recyclable. In volume, copper is the third most recycled metal after iron and aluminium. It is estimated that 80% of the copper ever mined is still in use today.

Let’s not forget its’ beautiful reddish-brown color that works well with many current interior design styles.

So, copper kills bacteria, is corrosion resistant, recyclable and gorgeous. It doesn’t get much better.
